Personality and Self-Understanding

Psychology suggests that a person’s personality can evolve roughly every ten years.

Our environment, the people around us, and life experiences shape how we think, act, and respond.

I first learned about my personality in elementary school through a test.

My self-understanding score was 98%, and my empathy score was 100%.

The results described me as both introverted and extroverted. At that age, I didn’t fully understand what it meant.

I was quiet and reserved, but with friends, I became lively and expressive.

Later, while working with organizations, I noticed many people don’t understand why they behave the way they do. Personality assessments can help with self-reflection, growth, and using one’s talents effectively. Many companies also use them before forming teams to improve communication, assign roles thoughtfully, and navigate challenges.

Personality is not fixed. It’s a reference point that shifts depending on circumstances.

Personality numbers like MBTI 16, Enneagram 9, and Big 5 reflect traits we are born with.

Our environment shapes how prominently these traits are expressed.

I used to be more emotionally driven, but over time I’ve become more strategic and analytical.

Today, I move between ESFJ and ENTJ depending on the environment.

I revisit personality assessments every 5 to 10 years and have taken them about four or five times, so I have the analysis papers. The results evolve with my environment.

With greater self-regulation, I may appear calm, but I still channel my energy through running, hiking, upbeat music, and reflection. Running, in particular, helps me organize my thoughts and actions, which might otherwise feel scattered.

In the past, people had to visit institutions to access these resources.

Today, the internet allows us to learn and explore from anywhere.

Understanding yourself isn’t about labeling who you are, it’s about discovering who you are becoming.

- MBTI (16 personalities Test)

- Enneagram (9 Personalities Test)

- Big 5 Personality Test

When taking a personality test, be honest.

Answer for who you really are, not who you want to be.

Only then can you find a career and life that truly fit you.
