I find myself reflecting on the long journey it took to come all the way from Korea to the U.S.
There were many moments when I asked myself, “Is it too late?”, “Can I really do this?”
Looking at these photos, some might only see the bright smiles. Behind these frames, however, there were long hours spent in the library, and I chose not to go back to my home country until I graduated.
I especially want to thank those who truly understood me and patiently gave me the space to find my voice. I believe that listening and waiting are profound forms of love, as they require emotional strength.
I strive to pour that same energy back into the world. I hope our paths cross again somewhere!
I’d like to sincerely thank @Lindsay Graham and the team at @SCAD for featuring me in this interview and coordinating it.
I am deeply grateful to my families and cousins for always supporting me and keeping an eye on me throughout this long journey, even when I’ve been too busy to stay in touch.
I also want to thank the college professors and other teachers who awakened my understanding of design and philosophy, as well as the teams I worked with, my friends, and all my colleagues from previous jobs in South Korea and the U.S.
Finally, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to two special mentors who have been part of my life from elementary school and continued supporting me since I became an adult!
Jinhee Jeong, my life and art teacher and mentor, who first reached out and breathed art and sensibility into me during the most challenging times. Thank you for always encouraging me through every tough moment.
Michael Simning, my first language teacher and mentor in Korea, who opened the door to the world of language and culture for me. Through him, I learned not only language but also the true spirit of service and generosity toward others. Though he is no longer with us, the volunteer spirit he instilled in me continues to grow in everything I do. I miss his positive mindset and playful jokes. Thank you, Michael.
